Alala - Corvidae Corvus hawaiiensis

The Hawaiian crow is called 'Alala in Hawaiian. Unlike most crows, the 'Alala is very rare and critically endangered of becoming extinct. There are only a few dozen of them left, most of which are in a captive breeding facility on Maui. The 'Alala once inhabited all the main Hawaiian Islands, but is now found only on the Big Island of Hawaii. The 'Alala is an intelligent bird, and in ancient times was sometimes kept as a pet.
