I'iwi - Fringillidae Vestiaria coccinea

A 2010 post card for Hawaii Nei. I also own a 2010 Giclee of the image, titled "'I'iwi Up Close" and a 2009 poster also for Hawaii Nei. The original won the Jurors' Choice Award in the 2009 Hawaii Nei art competition.

From the US Audubon Society website: "I'wis have one of the most widespread distributions of all native Hawaiian songbirds, occurring on the islands of Hawai'i, Maui, Moloka'i, O'ahu, and Kaua'i. Because of I'wis' propensity for seasonal movements in search of flowering trees, it is difficult to assess fully population trends for this species. However, it appears that I'wis are experiencing a population decline, except at higher elevation sites."
