We decided to spend a week on Kauai afterwards for photography with some emphasis on birds. We were hooked up with our guide, Carl Berg, via Annette Kaohelaulii (our travel agent).
We travelled around Kauai with Carl on four different days, and were very pleased with the results. He tailored our travels to what we wanted, which was a combination of seeing and photographing both birds and beautiful Kauai. The results include my bird photos here, as well as our travel photos.
We highly recommend Carl Berg as a Kauai guide for birding and scenery. He can be reached best
Here is a photo of Carl and one of how we usually saw him:

Annette Kaohelaulii saved us quite a bit of money and put us in a very nice hotel at a reasonable price. Annette has her own website, Annette's Adventures.
Although very pleased with Carl Berg as a guide on Kauai, I am not pleased with myself as a photographer on Kauai. Live and learn. Yes, I took a lot of pictures I am very happy with, but I could have had more! I did not use a tripod and remote switch very often, and wish I had. I did not significantly under-expose for white birds against a dark background (finally learned I had to under-expose by two full stops). Basics! And I was not careful enough with my lenses, causing Joan and I to have to share her 100-400mm IS lens. Thank you Joan!
Also, a note to birders: Carl took us to where we could easily see iiwi, apapane and elepaio. Great birds (the iiwi was a life lister for me). However, they are small, secretive birds (at least the iiwi and apapane) living in tree tops, and we were unable to get good photos of them.
